A suspect has been arrested for the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, according to a report. Sources told The Associated Press on Friday that Duane Keith Davis, known as Keffe D, had been taken into custody on suspicion of the deadly drive-by shooting.
The arrest comes just two months after Davis' Nevada home was raided by Las Vegas police and evidence was seized in connection to the cold case. Davis, a former Southside Compton Crips gang member, has previously claimed to have been present at Shakur's murder and knows who pulled the trigger.
In both the 2018 Netflix documentary "Unsolved: The Tupac and Biggie Murders" and in his book "Compton Street Legend," Davis claimed that his nephew Orlando Anderson fatally shot Shakur. Anderson was long the prime suspect in the killing, but he denied any involvement and was also killed two years later in a gang-related shooting.
Davis is now scheduled to appear in court on Monday to face murder charges.
The arrest of a suspect in Shakur's murder is a major breakthrough in one of the most high-profile unsolved cold cases in American history. It is also a sign that law enforcement is not giving up on bringing justice to the victims of gang violence, even decades after the crimes have been committed.
We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
