Microphone Launched by 50 Cent During Concert Possibly Strikes Woman

During the performance on August 30, 2023, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the artist known as 50 Cent, or Curtis James Jackson III, was captured on fan-recorded videos engaging in a series of actions that included tossing microphones offstage. These incidents have raised speculation that a woman in the audience might have been inadvertently struck by one of the microphones.

The incident occurred as part of the "In Da Club" rapper's concert at Crypto.com Arena, an indoor venue situated in Los Angeles, California. The footage circulating on platforms like TikTok portrays two distinct instances where 50 Cent discarded his microphone offstage. One of these moments appeared to be prompted by frustration with a malfunctioning microphone during his performance.

The source of his apparent irritation seemed to stem from an on-stage collaboration with rapper YG, whose real name is Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson. In the footage, 50 Cent is seen walking to the left side of the stage, extending his microphone outward as if to pass it over, after which he seemingly hurls the microphone away. Another clip captures him in possession of another microphone, which he forcefully throws offstage upon realizing it's not functioning properly.

Reports from TMZ indicate that one of these microphone throws struck a woman in the audience. However, Scott Leemon, the attorney representing 50 Cent, asserts that his client did not intentionally aim to hit anyone with a microphone. Leemon's statement emphasizes that individuals speaking to the contrary may not possess all the pertinent facts and could be misinformed.

The Los Angeles Police Department's spokesperson shared that they were unable to identify any emergency calls made from the arena during the event, and no police report related to the incident was available.

These occurrences coincide with 50 Cent's commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his debut studio album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," as part of his "The Final Lap Tour." In an interview with TODAY, 50 Cent mentioned that the tour title signifies his acknowledgment of not embarking on extended tours in the future.

This incident emerges amidst a backdrop of escalated confrontations between musical artists and concert attendees this summer. Concerts have witnessed instances of audience members displaying uncivil behavior, including throwing objects onto the stage, ranging from personal mementos to electronic devices. Cardi B also faced a similar situation in July, during a performance in Las Vegas, where a fan tossed a drink at her. In response, she hurled her microphone in an act of retaliation.

It's worth noting that the concertgoer who engaged in this exchange with Cardi B filed a battery report, although the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that no criminal charges would be pressed against Cardi B in connection with the incident.
